The breasts of the young women with congenital malformation have been reconstructed

The process of reconstruction lasted for a year

Article published in "Adevarul " newspaper on 15.09.2004

The chief of the Clinical Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Hospital of Clinical Urgency Iasi, professor Theodor Stamate, along with other doctors have performed in national premiere, total reconstruction of the breasts of both young women. Alexandra N, eighteen year old, from Pascani and Anca B, twenty year old, from Iasi that was born with the Poland Syndrome, a congenital malformation that wouldn't allow the development of both breasts. She reached adolescence, both young women were physically marked by such an anomaly. One year ago, Alexandra and Anca heard that the Hospital of Clinical Urgency from Iasi can perform reconstruction operations of this type, so in the end they decided to contact the doctors from the department of plastic surgery of the mentioned hospital.

In the first faze, the specialist realized a muscle holder on that structure in which they have implanted some balloons with some cells, filled with physiologic serum. Professor Stamate explained : 'The most hardest thing to realize was the muscle holder, which had the role of holding the mamar prothesys. Now the health situation of the patients is very good, but more important, they are proud of their appearance.

Until now, in our country such interventions of total reconstruction of a malformed breat hasn't been performed. The two cases offered me a change to put in application numerous studies done in other countries on this theme. The process of reconstruction lasted one year and was extremely difficult.

At the half of the process of the breast reconstruction there are other three young women that suffer from the Poland Syndrome.Their luck in this case is that the congenital malformation surgeries are for free. About the syndrome that they suffer from, professor Stamate tells us that is all about a very rare malformation, that you can't find out too many informations. Unluckily, few women that suffer from this disease know that the malformation can be remedied through surgical interventions.
